We’ve recently received information about a scam targeting people who need individual under-65 health insurance. Scammers call and claim to be with “Health Hotline” and ask if the recipient of the call needs “major medical insurance.” From there, the scammer offers several plans through carriers that do not sell traditional individual under-65 health insurance on the Iowa market. Our understanding is that these plans are being marketed as more traditional individual under-65 coverage, but they are not!
Please be aware: scammers frequently try to confuse individuals by claiming they can get them better health insurance that may not actually exist on the Marketplace. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately. If you’ve recently been targeted, please let me know.
As your trusted health insurance expert, I want to make sure you are aware of a new scam that may target you. Scammers are calling individuals claiming to be from a company called Health Hotline. During the call, they offer individual under-65 health insurance coverage that is not available on the Marketplace. As a rule of thumb, if you receive a call from someone who claims they can get you a better premium that sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
If you ever receive a suspicious call, please reach out and inform me of the situation. You can reach me at (641) 856-3374 or by email.
